Well, we finally did it, we beat the cats. If you follow this column at all you know that one of our first challenges was SEO for our own name. VanBreed, short for Vanishing Breed, is also a breed of cat, the Turkish Van breed. So this means we had to go to war with some fluffy faced kittens that have some very passionate owners. At the end of the day we won.
Turkish Van
Mind you we weren’t trying to get placement as a Nimble Solutions Partner, a SalesForce certified administrator or even a veteran owned business. We just wanted it so when folks Googled VanBreed, they found us, not a cat. Crawl before you can run I guess.
How did we do it? There were three things that we did to help get us to the top. First, we blogged; a lot. We generated as much relevant content as we could. Next we tweeted about the content and also other industry news. Twitter actually accounts for about 27% of our traffic.
Finally, we did what I would consider SEO maintenance. We made sure each page had a canonical reference and we updated our site map often to make sure the priority was set correctly on our more important articles.
Not earth shattering stuff but it worked. Now maybe I can start working on getting the word out that we are a Nimble Solutions Partner. Again, crawling before we walk.
Allen Cordrey is the owner of VanBreed Management and has walked away from some great jobs and failed at starting two different companies. You probably don't want to listen to him.
